Central Statistical Organization (CSO)

The Central Statistical Organization (CSO) is one of the institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Planning and reports directly to the Minister of Planning. The CSO is the official authority responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing, and disseminating national statistical data (censuses, surveys, and indicators) to support planning and development. Pursuant to Statistics Law No. 28 of 1995, the CSO is responsible for conducting national censuses (population, housing, and agriculture), publishing the Annual Statistical Yearbook, standardizing statistical concepts, and providing technical supervision to statistical units within ministries. Data Collection and Compilation: Collecting, compiling, and organizing statistical and vital data (births, deaths, marriages, and divorces) from various sources.
Censuses and Surveys: Conducting national censuses (population, housing, and agricultural censuses) and economic and social surveys (such as Household Budget Surveys).
Publication of Official Statistics: Publishing the Annual Statistical Yearbook, demographic reports, and economic indicators.
Standardization of Statistical Methodologies: Developing national statistical manuals, classifications, and standards in line with international best practices.
Technical Supervision and Quality Assurance: Providing technical oversight of statistical departments within ministries and government agencies to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.
Database Development: Establishing and maintaining comprehensive national databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) infrastructure for statistical mapping.
Capacity Building and Training: Training and developing statistical personnel through its Statistical Training Center.
Provision of Development Data: Supplying policymakers, planners, and decision-makers with the data required for development planning and policy formulation.
