Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, held a virtual meeting today with the United States Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, to discuss bilateral relations and ways to strengthen development and economic cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The two sides reviewed progress in implementing economic and fiscal reforms supported by the United States and development partners, including efforts to strengthen the capacity of the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden and enhance financial and banking supervisory systems.

The meeting also explored opportunities to increase private sector participation in development and investment, the government’s efforts to improve the business environment, review investment legislation, and advance public-private partnership policies. Discussions further covered institutional capacity building, the development of national human resources, and U.S.-supported academic exchange and scholarship programmes.

Dr. Al-Zouba expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for the United States’ continued support for Yemen and its institutions. She also outlined the government’s priorities in the areas of economic recovery, improving essential public services, and strengthening institutional governance.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultation to further strengthen the bilateral partnership in ways that serve the interests of both countries and support Yemen’s recovery and long-term stability.
